He Gives Rest

Sitting here, Bible open, soft breeze blowing, listening to the lovely melody of the birds, a peace and contentment flood my soul.

I have everything I’ve ever dreamed of!

Do I have that “dream house” or grand piano room? No.  And maybe to some my earthly possessions may be little.  But I am so blessed!  And no matter where I’ve been, THIS is the only thing I’ve ever wanted!

Sitting here two memories are brought to my mind.  One of a little girl, then a teenager in her favorite spot in the woods.  Birds singing, breeze blowing, sun beams sneaking through the branches overhead and warming her face every now and then.  This was her refuge from her five brothers.

The second memory of a young missionary mother, living in a tiny 500 sq. foot home with her five babies.  Inside, sometimes a little noisy…and as soon as she opened her door, friendly neighborhood greetings in Russian.  All things she loved so dearly, yet there was no quiet, little spot to sit.  No listening to the birds, enjoy the flowers, or hit the pause button.  How she longed and cried for just a little corner haven!  A place where all was quiet and she could commune with God!

God answered her prayer.

Maybe not in the way she wanted, as she dearly loved the people who God had brought her to minister too!  They had become her family.

But as I sit here in what sounds like a bird sanctuary – little herb pots behind me, white petunias around me, a few tears mist my eyes and a tear hits my cheek as I gratefully think…I have everything my heart could desire!  God knew I needed this!

God is a refuge to those who seek HIM.  He has a rest for those who come to Him. Our Father knows what we have need of.  Trust HIM.Psalm 62:5-8My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.  In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.
