“Don’t love,” they said….but I’d rather love and be hurt than to have never known love.
Sitting here with my beautiful, new tea cup from one of the dear ladies from my church, I feel overwhelmed by their love! They loved on me so much this Christmas that it made me cry! Sometimes as a Pastor’s wife, it can be lonely. And we’re given the advice to guard our heart with those in our church. But I disagree with that advice.
Yes, there are things going on that we should not share, but I feel like in any relationship or friendship you run the risk of being hurt. We are all human. It cannot be avoided. But what a sad, lonely world if we all decided to close ourselves up and not love because we were hurt!
When you love, it may be unappreciated, it may be rejected…but there are always times when we’re overwhelmed by the love of others. This verse is one that God has often brought to my mind throughout the years of our ministering to people.
“And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.” II Corinthians 12:15
May I encourage you to keep on loving – whether it’s your family, friends, strangers…love those God puts in your path.
